The exhibition ‘Form and Function: A Fusion of Design, Art and Sculpture’ questions the conventional distinctions between art and design, offering a broad perspective on creative expression. It creates a dialogue between pieces of furniture created by sculptors and a diverse selection of three and two-dimensional art that span various styles.

Martine Boileau’s Table du Dimanche (left) and Eva Papadopoulou’s Table, Tabour (middle), and Mirror (right) are examples of functional art. Both artists have used unconventional materials for their furniture: bronze in the case of Boileau, and stone and marble in the case of Papadopoulou, materials that were chosen for their texture and artistic qualities. Papadopoulou’s functional art is, in fact, an integral part of her artistic narrative as she uses a unique technique for her furniture as well as for her relief pieces and sculptures.

Furniture designed by sculptors serves practical purposes, yet it also incorporates sculptural elements, offering a unique blend of form and function in everyday life. Boileau’s Table for example resembles a magnificent tree trunk, yet it invites us to sit down and enjoy a family meal.

While sculptor- designed furniture exhibits artistic and intricate designs, it is intended to have a practical function in addition to its aesthetic appeal. Sculpture and painting, on the other hand, is focused on pure artistic expression. It is meant to convey ideas, emotions, and aesthetic or conceptual concepts, not to serve a utilitarian purpose. The exhibition ‘Form and Function: a Fusion of Design, Art, and Sculpture’ invites visitors to explore the dynamic synergy between these different forms of expression. The artworks by Boisecq, Caras, Couturier, Créac’h, Guzman, Makris, Philolaos, Siepman van den Berg, and Tsoclis, that are showcased in this exhibition, seamlessly intertwine with the functional art that is displayed alongside it. This illustrates how art can become part of our daily lives, serving both aesthetic and functional purposes.

Η έκθεση Form and Function: A Fusion of Design, Art and Sculpture ερευνά τις συμβατικές διακρίσεις μεταξύ τέχνης και σχεδιασμού, προσφέροντας ένα δημιουργικό διάλογο με έπιπλα που δημιουργήθηκαν από γλύπτες και με μια ποικιλία με  δισδιάστατα και τρισδιάστατα έργα τέχνης που συνδυάζουν διαφορετικά στυλ.
